Elementary School Guidance Office

Welcome to the Hardyston Elementary School guidance page!  As the School Counselor, I am here to support your children with emotional, social, and academic issues.  Parents, teachers, or students should feel free to approach me with any concerns.  The following are some of my responsibilities:

EMOTIONAL

Inidivdual/Group Counseling – I can meet with your child on a regular or as-needed basis to address many of the following issues, included but not limited to:

·      Managing stress/anxiety
·      Social Skills
·      Coping with separation/divorce
·      Handling change
·      Conflict resolution
·      Making and keeping friends
·      Dealing with frustration
·      Organizational skills

Community Agency Referrals – I serve as a liaison between our Hardyston families and outside community agencies which provide support.  I can make referrals to services such as psychologists, outside counseling, therapists, shelters, bereavement programs, and family intervention services.

ACADEMIC

Intervention & Referral Services (I&RS)

When a teacher is concerned about a student, he or she may make an I&RS referral.  A meeting is then held with the parents, teacher, school counselor, and a member of the Child Study Team, with the goal of defining ways to help a student succeed.

504 Accommodation Plans

A 504 plan offers accommodations to any student who has a medical diagnosis which is impeding his or her ability to succeed academically.  A fairly common example of a medical diagnosis which may necessitate a 504 plan is Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK)

SOCIAL

School Climate and Service Learning Programs – At Hardyston Elementary School we are proud of our positive school climate and caring environment.  We run many theme weeks and programs that support positive behaviors as well as work together to raise money for a variety of causes.  The following are some such programs:

·      Red Ribbon Week
·      Pennies For Patients
·      CAP (Child Assault Prevention)
·      Week of Respect
·      No Name Calling Week

New Students

I welcome the opportunity to meet new members of the Hardyston School Community and encourage new families to reach out to me with questions or concerns.  Moving to a new school can be a stressful experience and I can help your child adjust if needed.  Additionally, I hold a “new student breakfast” each year in order to meet new students and their parents or guardians.

Guidance Updates

I will be providing parents with guidance updates each month through our “Front Page” Hardyston newsletter. Please be on the lookout for the elementary guidance news section. I will provide you with information on character education, themes for the month, our school climate campaign, state testing, fundraisers, and more.

Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act

I currently act as the Anti-Bullying Specialist for the Hardyston Elementary School and will investigate reported incidents of Harassment, Intimidation, or Bullying (HIB).
