Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the conclusion of the 2016/2017 school year, I request that you carefully review the following information regarding important dates and the assessment of students’ academic progress. In addition to the information presented, I encourage you to regularly visit the parent portal and our district website which lists school activities.  On the reverse side of this letter you will find the school calendar for the 2017/2018 school year.


Last Day of School/Early Dismissal Days

The amended 2016/2017 school calendar for the remainder of this school year is as follows:


·       Last day of school for Middle School  students                   Monday, June 19

·       Last day of school for Elementary  students                        Tuesday, June 20 (Early Dismissal)

·       Early dismissal days for all students                                     June 15, 16, and 19     


The elementary school will dismiss at 1:15 PM and the middle school will dismiss at 12:35 PM on the early dismissal days.  We remind you that elementary students will not be left at a bus stop without an adult present. 


Eighth Grade Graduation

Graduation is scheduled for Friday, June 16 at 7:00 PM in the middle school gymnasium. Each graduating eighth grader will be allocated 6 tickets. Eighth grade parents will be receiving a letter regarding this event from the middle school.


Eighth Grade Dance

This event is scheduled for Friday, June 9, in the middle school cafetorium from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.  Additional information will be forthcoming. Students must be in attendance until 1:00 PM.


Eighth Grade Presidential Awards Program

The eighth grade Presidential Awards program and continental breakfast for students will be on Monday, June 19, at 8:15 AM. 


Fifth Grade L.E.A.D. Ceremony

The fifth grade L.E.A.D. ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 31, from 10:53 AM to 12:06 PM in the middle school cafetorium.


Fourth Grade Promotion Ceremony / Fourth Grade Orientation

The fourth grade promotion ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM, in the Elementary School Gymnasium.  A reception, provided by the PTA, will immediately follow in the all purpose room. At 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM, the students will travel to the middle school for orientation and will return to the elementary school for regular dismissal.  A parent/student incoming grade 5 “back to school” night will be scheduled September 5, 2017 at 7 PM.  More information will be sent home during the summer.


Sports Physicals

The annual sports physicals will be held at the middle school on Tuesday, June 6, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM.  Please have all forms completed when you arrive.  All students must have a current physical on file to participate in any sport activity, including ski club and intramurals.  Forms may be obtained at either school; please call Mrs. Burdzy or Mrs. Forenback if you have any questions.

On or about the end of February 2017, parents were notified of possible retentions in grade level due to lack of sufficient academic progress.  Second letters regarding retention will be mailed to parents the beginning of May and final letters will be mailed the first week of June.
