The Hardyston Township Board of Education will provide regular updates here regarding progress on the search for our community’s next educational leader. As we go forward, you will find key dates and announcements posted on this page throughout the search. The Board is committed to transparent communication with our school stakeholders, while keeping all confidential information completely confidential.
The Board has approved Kathleen Helewa Educational Consultants, LLC to facilitate the search process. Ms. Helewa, who will be leading the search, has extensive and distinguished experience in conducting successful superintendent searches throughout the State. Additionally, Ms. Helewa has worked to support the Hardyston Township BOE and the public Boards of Education in Sussex County in matters of school board governance for the past ten years. Update: March 13
As of the close of the application window on March 11, fourteen candidates have applied for the position of Superintendent: four current Superintendents, two candidates in district-level Director positions, two school Principals,two Assistant / Vice Principals, and four candidates who occupy other positions in the field of education. Five candidates have earned doctorates.
The Hardyston Township Board of Education will convene in executive session during its meeting on the morning of Saturday, March 14 to examine each of the candidates’ qualifications and to determine who will be selected for first-round interviews, using the insights gained from the online survey and the in-person school stakeholder input sessions. Thank you to those who gave their time and offered their thoughts in the input session and surveys.

Update — March 5
The online Superintendent Search Input Survey closed on February 27, having garnered 108 participants. Many thanks to all who completed the survey, and who engaged in our in-person input sessions.
All outcomes will be compiled into an internal document for the Hardyston Township Board of Education which will guide our consultant, Ms. Helewa, and the HTBOE throughout the search process. Please continue to check this page for updates.

Update: February 20—Important Announcements!
The Hardyston Board of Education needs your help as we begin the search for our next Superintendent of Schools!
We look forward to your participation in our live in-person input sessions with our Search Consultant, Ms. Helewa, on Thursday, February 26:
– Daytime session for school administrators **
– After school dismissal sessions for faculty & staff at HTES and HTMS**
– Evening session for Hardyston families, parents, and community members, 5:30—7pm at Hardyston Township Middle School Cafeteria. No pre-registration required.
None of the above will be meetings of the HTBOE; school board members will NOT be present.
** Participants in the administrators’ and faculty / staff sessions should refer to internal District communications for more information.
In addition to the in-person sessions, the HTBOE is also pleased to offer a completely confidential online input survey for all of our District stakeholders.
Please take a few moments to thoughtfully participate in this brief survey, which is being wholly administered by our Search Consultant’s firm, KHEC LLC, not the school district. All responses are anonymous and will be shared with the Board to determine the suitability of the candidates for the position, and to formulate interview questions.
The survey will close at 11:59pm on Friday, February 27.
